Week 1 Watch Card

As if we needed a reason to get excited about this game.

Here's my short list of what I'm interested to see tonight . . .

  • Run Defense - The has been an issue for the Saints in the past, and I would be willing to put money on Adrian Peterson not fumbling like he did last time.  The dude plays amazing opening games.  They're going to run the ball.  A lot.  Never fear, it will take them longer to run the game than it will for us to pass it . . . no problem outscoring them there.  Still, I'm hoping they don't show this chink in their armor to the rest of the league in the first big game.
  • Linebackers - Scott Fujita will be missed.  Let's see how these guys step up to fill that void.
  • Injuries - I think I'm most concerned about Tracy Porter.  They really can't afford for him to make a slow return to the game.  And I know they're downplaying Anthony Harogrove's knee fluid issues, but this could be a much bigger problem than they're letting on.  Maybe not this game, though.  That dude will play until his leg falls off.  Especially this game.
  • Favre on the ground - Oh, it's an easy pick, sure, but it can't be ignored.  I don't think he has the passion in him to win this game.  He came back because his ego wants to be The Guy who wins a Super Bowl for his team.  He just wants to survive this game.  You can see it in his eyes.
  • Malcolm Jenkins - I think I'm most excited to see him play tonight.  They always planned to move him to safety, so this is his time to shine.  Watching footage from last year, he's going to do just fine.  We may not see the interceptions we did with Sharper (they're completely different players), but he hits harder, and I'm excited to see him drop Adrian and Brett a few times.
Who Dat!
I've got goose pimples just thinking about it!

  1. I'm concerned about Sharper being out, that's going to really hurt

  2. I'm optimistic. He was beaten up and less effective the second half of the season. I'm thinking Jenkins can at least fill his shoes from the last time we played the Vikings.
