The Preseason Game in Which I Care

First things first.  Despite what that title says, I don't care about the score.  I never care about the preseason score.  I don't care about preseason wins or losses either.  I don't even care how much they whoop up on the other team during the first half.  (Although, I must admit, it's really nice to see it.)  That's not what preseason is about.

It's about who shows up when their ass is on the line.

It's about Leigh Torrence and Usama Young screwing up royally, then shaking off the stink and proving that they aren't gonna pull a Reggie and wander around the field with their heads up their asses the rest of the game.

MICHAEL DeMOCKER / THE TIMES-PICAYUNE

It's about Chris Ivory showing he can push through a pile, stiff-arm a guy, and make fantastic cuts all in the same run.  Because he'll need to when Pierre gets hurt.  And he will.  He always does.  Nice to know there's an Ivory back there in the wings.

It's about Michael Jenkins reminding us he can hit.  And he will.  And every little thing . . . it's gonna be alright.

It's about depth.  Because you can't win a Super Bowl (*ahem* another Super Bowl) without it.

And hey, let's face it, that 500+ yards of offense ain't bad either.

Also, a quick farewell to Troy Evans, the other Harper, and their three buddies, who got released this week.  Better now than later, I guess, when you'll have nowhere to go.  Sucks to cut last year's special teams captain, but we always seem to have way too much depth at that position during preseason.  So much for my rebound linebacker.
